Trinity Wildcats girls basketball routs Houston Academy in AHSAA regional semifinal

Trinity girls basketball had little trouble with Houston Academy in Thursday's AHSAA Class 3A Southeast Regional semifinal at Garrett Coliseum, winning 75-38.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats (27-5) scored eight points in the first 50 seconds of the game and didn't look back.

Trinity led 25-5 after the first quarter, 42-13 at halftime and 62-27 at the end of the third quarter.

Emma Kate Smith scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats, who had four players in double-figure scoring: Mya Moskowitz (17), Maddie Smith (13) and Mary Alice Sasser (11). Maddie Smith also had eight steals and seven assists.

Trinity attempted 58 shots from the field, compared to just 28 for Houston Academy. The disparity was the result of turnovers: the Wildcats forced a whopping 35, and scored 43 points off of them.

The Wildcats will face the winner of Thursday's second Southeast Regional semifinal vs. Prattville Christian or Pike County. The regional final is scheduled for next Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.

Trinity lost its first three meetings to Prattville Christian (33-1) but beat the defending state champions, 52-45, in the Class 3A Area 6 championship game on Feb. 10.
