Last year, Susannah Constantine revealed that she was an alcoholic who had been in recovery for seven years.

Now, the 59-year-old presenter's former What Not To Wear co-host, Trinny Woodall, has opened up about how she supported her friend through this difficult time.

Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph about the period after the pair stopped working together in 2014, the fashion expert, 57, said: "We’ve remained very close and I’ve been there for her during her alcoholism battle.

"I’ve been through addiction myself and I’m further down the road so we could talk about it.

"But I’m the blunt friend, the one who will say, ‘What the f*** is going on, because you really don’t look great?’ Maybe it’s too blunt, but at least I get to the point."

Woodall has previously revealed her own drink and drug addiction, but this year celebrated 31 years of sobriety.

In November 2020, her friend Constantine told the the podcast My Mate Bought a Toaster that she was a "highly functioning" alcoholic.

Writing shortly afterwards, in a piece for the Daily Mail, she recalled: "To my great shame, I will never forget the time it was suggested that my husband should take me home from a friend’s 40th birthday because I could barely stand.

"After years of waking up filled with shame and guilt and asking God for the four horsemen to take me away and not bring me back, I knew it was time.

"Drinking had ceased to be fun. I had ceased to be fun. I was no longer in control, it was controlling me."

Constantine revealed that her turning point was on a holiday to Cornwall in 2013, during which she passed out and fractured two small bones in her back.

Of her closeness with Constantine, Woodall told the Sunday Telegraph, in the same new interview, that the pair were "like two halves of one person".

The mother-of-one – who has been in a relationship with Charles Saatchi since 2013 – added: "Afterwards we had to rediscover ourselves."

Woodall and Constantine first started working together in 1994, before finding fame in 2001 fronting the BBC series What Not To Wear.

In 2006, they defected to ITV where they hosted the show Trinny and Susannah Undress, before parting ways professionally eight years later.

Woodall went on to found Trinny London – a beauty brand now worth £180 million, according to Forbes – in 2017.
