Trio of Erie County girls, 10 District 10 players make all-state basketball team

Carissa Dunham and Jayden McBride took turns putting together big playoff performances for Villa Maria as the Victors reached the PIAA semifinals this winter.

The two were rewarded on Thursday by being named to the Class 4A all-state team.

District 10 had a total of 10 standout players voted to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers girls basketball all-state teams.

Leading the way was three-time selection Emma Ruhlman of Warren. The senior was named to the Class 5A second team after making the third team the past two years. Ruhlman averaged 15.6 points per game this winter and was named the Region 6 player of the year. She led Warren to another District 10 Class 5A championship this season and finished her career as the second all-time scorer in school history with 1,448 points.

Villa's Dunham and McBride were both named to the second team in Class 4A.

Dunham, a senior, averaged 14.3 points per game and is a Division I Mount St. Mary's commit. McBride, a sophomore, averaged 13.9 points per game. The two led Villa Maria to a District 10 Class 4A championship in the Victors' final season before the school merges with Cathedral Prep. While McBride secured her first all-state selection, it was the second for Dunham, who made the third team as a junior.
