Tripadvisor awards: Magic Kingdom is best theme park in the world

Magic Kingdom, the oldest theme park at Walt Disney World, has topped Tripadvisor’s annual Travelers’ Choice Awards, which rank attractions and destinations from around the world. Its latest “best amusement parks” list ends the five-year reign of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, which is third in the 2020 tally.

The runner-up spot was held by Puy du Fous of France. Disney’s Animal Kingdom was fourth, followed by Universal Studios Florida in fifth. Disney’s Hollywood Studios was in the No. 12 spot, and the Kissimmee location of Fun Spot landed 23rd on the list, which includes 25 attractions worldwide.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon was named the sixth-best water park in the world, the highest-ranking such attraction in the U.S. Disney’s Blizzard Beach is 19th on that global list. Topping that chart was Siam Park of Spain.

“Every year, we pull together all the reviews, ratings, and saves that travelers share from across the globe — and use that info to spotlight the very best,” the Tripadvisor website says. Tripadvisor’s site features user-generated content, comparison guides and reservations for travel experiences, including hotels.

In other Travelers’ Choice categories, two Florida hotels made the list of top hotels in the United States: The Santa Maria Suites in Key West (18th) and Henderson Park Inn in Destin (23rd). No U.S. hotels made the global hotel cut.

In the popular destinations category for the U.S., Orlando ranked fourth behind New York, Hawaii and Las Vegas. Miami Beach finished ninth, Key West 10th and Fort Lauderdale in 19th.

Florida had eight beaches rank in the top 25 for the U.S., including those in the top two slots: Siesta Key and St. Pete Beach.
