TripAdvisor names top 25 amusement parks in the world
Disneyland may be No. 1 in many people’s hearts, but it doesn’t even rank in the top 10 of the world’s best amusement parks, according to TripAdvisor.
The top spot in the travel website’s just-released 2019 Travelers’ Choice list of top 25 amusement parks in the world, for the fifth year in a row, went to Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida, and its sister park, Universal Studios Florida, came in third. In between the two was Magic Kingdom Park at Disney World.
And whither Disneyland? You need to go to No. 12, where it trails Disneyland Paris and is just ahead of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Universal Studios Hollywood came in at No. 6.
The list is determined by an algorithm based on quantity and quality of reviews as well as members’ rating, according to TripAdvisor.
The Force wasn't (yet) with Disney
The addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland likely had no bearing on the ratings since the 14-acre land didn’t open until May 31. Galaxy’s Edge also opens Aug. 29 in Disney World at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which was ranked 15th.
Florida parks dominated the list, placing seven parks in the top 25 with Orlando nabbing the top four spots (Disney’s Animal Kingdom was No. 4). Other Floridian parks were SeaWorld Orlando (No. 10) and Fun Spot America in Kissimmee (No. 22).
Eight European parks landed among the top 25 with national honors going to France with three destinations, including Disneyland Paris (No. 11) and Walt Disney Studios Park (No. 20).
