TripAdvisor reviews have several Florida cities ranking in a bad way: Worst hotel service
A recent study from Planetware analyzed reviews of over 9,000 hotels in 95 U.S. cities to determine which hotels had the worst guest experiences, the worst rooms, the worst reviews and the worst service.
Fourteen Florida cities made the nationwide list of cities with the worst hotel reviews and Miami led the list for worst service-specific reviews, with Siesta Key and Key West following close behind in the top 10 cities with the worst hotel service.
Here’s a breakdown of which Florida cities ranked on Planetware’s worst hotel service, worst hotel reviews and worst hotel overall lists.
How did Miami earn its ‘worst service’ ranking?
To determine which hotels had the worst customer service, Planetware sorted through millions of TripAdvisor reviews in each city with the worst hotels and found all negative mentions of staff and customer service. Miami hotels had the most negative service reviews of any of the 95 cities analyzed.
About 1 in 5 TripAdvisor reviews on Miami hotels have negative references to the hotels' customer services, which is around 19% of Miami hotel reviews.

These U.S. cities have the worst hotels in general, one is in Florida
Along with lists for cities with the worst customer service in hotels and the worst hotel reviews in general, Planetware released a list ranking cities with the most 1- and 2-star reviews. One Florida city tied for sixth place on this 'worst' list.
"The names on this list represent American cities that had a high volume of low ratings for their hotels. To determine the ranking, we calculated the percentage of all analyzed hotel reviews in a given city to find the percentage that was 1-star or 2-star reviews," Planetware's analysis says. "Of course, this ranking does not mean all hotels in each city are bad."
Here's the list of cities with the worst hotels, based on the amount of 1- and 2-star reviews:
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - First
(tie) Atlantic City, New Jersey and Virginia Beach, Virginia - Second
San Jose, California - Fourth
South Padre Island, Texas - Fifth
(tie) Memphis, Tennessee; San Antonio, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri; Columbus, Ohio; Tampa, Florida - Sixth
