Editor's note: The performance of the Frontmen at the Brown County Music Center has been canceled. The announcement came after the publication of this article.

Fans threw their underwear at these country singers. That shocked them in the 1980s and '90s, but they got used to it.

You might not yet know this supergroup country band, but you know its members. The newly meshed trio — they actually started singing together 12 years ago during their off seasons — of leading country singers is called Frontmen (formerly Frontmen of Country). Coming from three of country music's hottest bands of yore are Restless Heart's former lead singer Larry Stewart, Little Texas' Tim Rushlow and Lonestar's former lead singer Richie McDonald.

Stewart, Rushlow and McDonald have collectively sold more than 30 million records. Combined, the three also have more than 50 Top 40 hits.

Hearing a supergroup is like watching a film featuring a bunch of your treasured movie stars. A music supergroup joins big-name soloists from other groups, as one new group.

So, which member tries to elbow out the other two? Three accustomed-to-fame personalities in one studio could warrant a wrangle. According to Stewart, not here. "There's very little ego. We work really well together," he said on the phone. "The biggest fun I have is singing harmonies with these guys."

In addition to entertaining U.S. troops, these world-wowers have entertained at fairs, casinos and corporate events, along with a globally televised show at Washington, D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial.

"Performing for the military was the best experience of my life," Stewart said. Not only did he sing on the USS George H.W. Bush (the last U.S. Navy Nimitz-class supercarrier and the USS Harry S. Truman, the U.S. Navy eighth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier) but he also flew in helicopters and Ospreys. "I'm not man enough for that anymore."

A song usually takes its listeners somewhere. "The Bluest Eyes in Texas" (originally released as "Bluest Eyes in Texas") has us relive our one big mistake, but also hope for amends.

"Where did I go wrong? Did I wait too long? Or can I make it right?

"The bluest eyes in Texas are haunting me tonight."

The song, written by Dubois James Timothy, Robbins Charles David, Stephenson Van Wesley and sung by Stewart when he was a member of Restless Heart, hit the apex of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 1988. In Canada it reached No. 2 on the RPM Country Tracks chart.

"In the mid-1980s country went very traditional. RCA decided to cross over to pop. And, man, Nashville hated it. (Back then) 'Bluest Eyes in Texas' was too pop."

Trio taking their songs further, together

An A-list band backing the Frontmen's vocal solos and harmonies gives this ambitious show plenty of fan favorites. The men are adding a few new ones, too. They have six new songs and a new record deal coming.

"We do them, and we do them big. We've got a two-hour show and we still can't fit in all our (collective) hits," Stewart said.

That means you'll probably hear songs including “I’ll Still Be Loving You,” “Why Does It Have to Be (Wrong or Right)" and Lonestar faves “Amazed,” “Smile” and “I’m Already There,” plus Little Texas hits “God Blessed Texas,” “Amy’s Back in Austin” and “What Might Have Been.”
