Triple triumph: Parkside, Decatur and Wi-Hi all advance in Maryland football playoffs

High school football teams across the state of Maryland kicked off the postseason Friday night, and three Bayside South squads walked away with first round victories that extended their seasons.

Stephen Decatur

The Stephen Decatur Seahawks (8-2) cruised to an easy 45-13 home playoff victory over C. Milton Wright (6-4) Friday night, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. The Seahawks will get another home playoff game next week in the second round of the Class 2A Regional playoffs, as they host North Caroline (5-5), who shocked the Bayside with the biggest upset of the first round in their blowout road victory over Easton Friday night. When Decatur and North Caroline played in the regular season, the Seahawks pulled out a tough victory in a close, back and forth game.

Wi-Hi

Wi-Hi's Darius Foreman (3) celebrates his touchdown against Queen Anne's with Isaac Franklin (19) Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at Wicomico County Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland.

Also pulling out a win in the Class 2A Regional first round was Wi-Hi (7-3), who went on the road and walked away with a 20-13 victory over Queen Anne's, avenging one of their losses during the regular season. The Wi-Hi defense came up big in shutting down arguably the most dangerous offense in the Bayside in a win-or-go-home playoff battle, and the offense scored timely touchdowns to secure the lead in a game they never trailed. Next week, Wi-Hi will attempt to avenge another one of their three regular losses, as they travel to face a dominant Kent Island (9-1) squad on the road, who defeated Wi-Hi 28-13 when they faced each other in the regular season.

Parkside

Parkside's Luke Maciarello (8) gets the snap against Wi-Hi Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at Wicomico County Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland.

In Class 2A/1A football, the Parkside Rams (4-6) went on the road to face Fallston (4-6) in the first round of the regional playoffs, and walked away with a 27-24 victory over the Cougars. That makes it back-to-back victories for the Rams, who look to be finding their stride and peaking at the right time as a team after a tough regular season. They'll have to go on the road again next week to face a solid Harford Tech (6-4) squad in the second round, with a chance for the Rams to advance to the state quarterfinals.
