Trojan swimmers beat Bearcats

The Sturgis swim team picked up a victory over Battle Creek Central on Tuesday.

The Trojans won on the scoreboard, 86-72. They also finished with five career best swims and two personal best swims. Personal best swims are regarded as a swimmer’s best time for the current season.

Sturgis took home first place in five of the 12 events, but had enough solid top three finishes on the night to seal the victory.

Dalton Tisdel brought home first place in both of the freestyle sprint races. He won the 50 free at 23.42 seconds and the 100 free with a personal-best time of 52.06 seconds. Tisdel was also on the 200 free relay-winning team with Gavan Miller, EJ Miller and Aidan Owsley. They posted a time of 1:44.60 in the race.

Owsley won the 200 individual medley. He swam a time of 2:32.52 in that one, which was the best time in his career for the event.

Riley Bowers placed first overall in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.64, a career best.

Sturgis swam to second place in the 200 medley relay. There, the team of Gavan Miller, EJ Miller, Bowers and Tisdel posted a time of 1:55.33. The winning team from Battle Creek Central finished at 1:55.24 for the race.

Sturgis’ team of Logan Garbine, Hunter Diethrich, Ethan Oswalt and Dylan Kurzeja came in third place at 2:16.55.In the 200 freestyle Gavan Miller finished second at 2:14.95. Landon Powell came in third at 2:39.61 and Kurzeja was fourth overall at 2:40.72.

Finishing third in the 200 individual medley was Diethrich at 2:53.39, a personal best.

Oswalt came in fourth place in the 50 freestyle at 26.04 seconds, Bowers placed fifth at 26.32 seconds.

Garbine’s time of 1:21.90 in the 100 butterfly was good for third, a career best. Diethrich came in fourth place at 1:27.10.

EJ Miller’s time of 1:00.15 in the 100 freestyle was good for third, Oswalt came in fourth at 1:07.32.

The 500 freestyle saw two Trojans finish in the top three spots. Owsley’s time of 6:36.33 was second best, Kurzeja came in third at 7:28.42.

In the 100 backstroke, Garbine finished third at 1:14.87, Landon Powell came in fourth at 1:22.70.

Gavan Miller swam to second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:17.68, EJ Miller was third at 1:18.43.

The 400 freestyle relay saw Sturgis finish second. The team of Bowers, Diethrich, Oswalt and Owsley came in with a time of 4:00.60.
