Trojan volleyball third at Mt. Morris

The Sturgis volleyball team finished third at the Mt. Morris Tournament on Saturday.

The Trojans fell to host Mt. Morris in the gold bracket, 25-20 and 25-19.

In pool play, Sturgis won all three of its matches. The Trojans beat Birmingham Roeper 25-12, 25-14; St. Louis 25-16, 25-5 and Warren Regina 25-19, 25-22.

Adison Nettleman led Sturgis with 35 kills, seven aces and 29 digs on the day. Megan Hecht added 31 kills with 12 digs and five blocks, Taylor Miller totaled 12 kills with three aces and 35 digs.

Angela Cary finished with seven kills, six blocks and two digs while Keyanna O’Tey registered seven kills as well with five blocks and three digs. Rylee Carver scored three aces with 26 digs and two assists, Emryson Claar scored five aces and 16 digs.

Harlie Blum passed out 77 assists for Sturgis. She also recorded three kills, six aces and 16 digs.

SHS is now 30-14-4 on the season. The Trojans play on Thursday at Edwardsburg and in the Mattawan Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Constantine at Berrien Springs

The Constantine volleyball team reached the semifinals of the Berrien Springs invite on Saturday.

The Falcons fell in those semis to Niles-Brandywine in two sets, 19-25 and 14-25.

Prior to that, the Falcons finished first in pool play. They split with Michigan Lutheran 25-16, 24-25 but beat Bangor 25-14, 25-19 and Berrien Springs 25-18, 25-18.

Meah Evans led Constantine with 21 kills, 13 aces, two blocks, 15 digs and 24 assists. Jozee Buglione added 15 kills with three aces, seven blocks and 23 digs while Sienna Salisbury finished with 17 kills, three aces, 11 blocks and 18 digs. Bella Cullifer recorded 16 kills with four blocks while Jenny Clewell added eight kills, three aces and four digs. Karlee Mullendore scored four kills with five digs, Alyssa Anthony registered one kill with two aces and 15 digs and 32 assists. Hallee Schieber added 27 digs and three aces.

Colon at Hanover-Horton

The Colon volleyball team fell in the finals of the Hanover-Horton tournament on Saturday. The Magi were defeated by Adrian in the finals, 25-15 and 25-23.

“We have been working on improving our serving this week,” Colon coach Michelle Walkinhood said. “The girls racked up 32 aces for the day.”

Megann Mullins totaled 20 kills with five digs and four aces, Reagan Thaxton added 11 kills with three digs and two aces, Kelsey Burgess added 11 kills with six blocks and four aces.

Reese Williams handed out 39 assists with six aces and four digs.

Haven McClish added 13 digs with eight aces, Macey Burgess totaled 10 kills and two blocks.
