Trollop, a local attorney, is from Wausau, graduated from the Wausau School District and has children who attend school in the district, he told the Wausau Daily Herald in March. Ahead of the election, he said the top issues facing the district are student achievement, finances and reorganizing the district to make it more efficient while also offering better educational opportunities and support for students and better working conditions for staff.

Sillars, a self-employed business owner, was appointed to the Wausau School Board on Sept. 6, 2022, but told the Daily Herald he has been attending a majority of School Board meetings, public conversation meetings and referendum presentations over the last three years. Ahead of the election, he said the top issues facing the district are funding and expenditures and the merger and restructuring of the school buildings. He said he voted "no" on the restructuring plan at the Feb. 13 meeting because of the lack of details given to the public.

Paoli, a finance/credit department manager, told the Daily Herald this is the first time she has campaigned for an elected position. However, she is a lifelong resident of the Wausau area and she and her husband and their three grown children are all graduates of Wausau West High School. Ahead of the election, she said the top issues facing the district are fiscal shortfalls and the lack of transparency and information provided to the community about the restructuring of the school district.

School Board candidates are elected to three-year terms.
