An investigation is underway after a tractor-trailer driver was killed after being run off the road in an early morning crash.

The deadly crash happened Sunday around 2:20 a.m. on State Road 417.

Troopers said a Mercedes E350 was traveling southbound on SR 417 near the Boggy Creek Mainline Toll Plaza when the crash occurred.

Witnesses told the Florida Highway Patrol that the driver of the Mercedes appeared to be going over the speed at the time of the crash.

According to troopers, the Mercedes failed to slow down or stop before the driver crashed in the back of a semi-truck with no trailer.

The impact caused the semi-tuck to go off the road, hit a guardrail, enter an embankment and overturn before coming to a rest.
