Troopers investigate Tuscaloosa crash that killed 3-year-old, injured two others

A 3-year-old child died Wednesday night in a crash that involved multiple vehicles in Tuscaloosa County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 11:12 p.m. on Alabama Highway 69, about seven miles south of the city of Tuscaloosa, when a 2015 Hyundai Genesis and a 2022 Ford F350 collided.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified by troopers as 24-year-old Shadereka M.L. Green of Tuscaloosa, was ejected from her vehicle, along with a 3-year-old passenger and a 4-year-old passenger.

Troopers said the 3-year-old was struck by an unidentified vehicle after being ejected. The driver of the unidentified vehicle did not stop or return to the crash site, according to troopers.

The 3-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Green and the 4-year-old were taken to area hospitals for treatment. None of the occupants of the Hyundai were using seat belts or child restraints, troopers said.

The driver of the Ford was identified as 34-year-old John W. Henry of Newbern.

No further information was made available.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating. Anyone who has information about the crash or the unidentified vehicle is asked to call the troopers at 205-553-5531.
