Troopers are on the hunt for a man they say evaded their traffic stop attempts for about 50 miles, fleeing on foot after the motorhome he was driving caught on fire after riding on its rims.

About 10 p.m. Sunday, the Florida Highway Patrol was alrted of a hit-and-run crash on southbound Interstate 75, at mile marker 94, along Alligator Alley, in Everglades City.

Shortly after, troopers said they located the hit-and-run vehicle with a potentially impaired driver, traveling south on Interstate 75, at mile marker 89.

Troopers attempted a traffic stop, but the motorhome driver didn't obey. As he continued south,  troopers deployed Stop Sticks at multiple locations along Interstate 75, puncturing all tires.

Troopers say the driver refused to stop and continued driving south on Interstate 75 on tire rims.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office performed a stop technique around mile marker 32, which caused the motorhome to veer off the roadway, collide with a fence and come to a stop on the south side grass shoulder.

The driver remained inside the motorhome, which became engulfed in flames.

The suspect exited, fled into the Everglades and remains at large, troopers say.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the motorhome's flames.
