Tropical Storm Bret updates: Storm moving through Caribbean, Augusta is out of the path

A storm formed over the Atlantic Ocean on Monday that is on many people's radars.

Tropical Storm Bret is the second named storm of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane season. Bret's maximum sustained winds have nearly doubled in speed to 70 mph while the storm's movement has slowed to 14 mph westward, according to the National Hurricane Center's update on Thursday.

Much of the Caribbean is expected to be hit. There is a hurricane watch in effect in St. Lucia. Tropical storm warnings are in effect in Dominica and Martinique. Tropical storm watches are in effect in Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Although the Augusta is currently on a flash flood watch due to another storm cloud over the Southeast, locals are probably safe from Tropical Storm Bret. Based on its trajectory, the storm is more likely to be felt in the other Caribbean islands as well as parts of Central and South America.
