Idalia: Closures, canceled, postponed events as storm nears Northeast Florida

As Idalia nears Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, here is a list of locations that have closed or events that are being rescheduled or canceled throughout the area.

This list will be updated as we get more information.

• In light of Hurricane Idalia, Wednesday’s game between the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Charlotte Knights has been postponed. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5:05 p.m. on Friday, with both contests seven innings in length. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and tickets for Friday’s game will be good for both games of the twin bill.

• The City of St. Augustine Beach city offices will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, and will resume normal operations on Thursday at 8 a.m. Splash Park is closed until further notice. Beach driving is closed to the public beginning Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 12 p.m. for the duration of the storm. The St. Johns County Pier will close on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 5 p.m. for the duration of the storm. Barricades will be in place.

• In preparation for Hurricane Idalia, all First Coast YMCA locations will be closed on Wednesday, August 30th. Please visit fcymca.org for the latest information.

• Aligning with the City of Jacksonville’s emergency management plans, all Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office buildings will be closed to the public Tuesday, August 29 – Wednesday, August 30, and are expected to re-open at the regularly scheduled times on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

• The Department of Corrections is cancelling the following services Wednesday and Thursday: In-person Public Notary Services, On-site Video Visitation. These services will resume Friday, September 1, 2023 unless deemed otherwise.

• Due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Idalia, St. Johns County will be closing the Pier Park at 5 PM today (Tuesday). The parking lot will be barricaded and the park will remain closed until the storm passes and conditions are deemed safe. The Money For Nothin’ in Concert, Art Show and Great Food too has been cancelled. We hope to see everyone Wednesday, September 6 for our next scheduled show! Stay safe!

• In cooperation with Mayor Donna Deegan’s declaration of a state of emergency in the City of Jacksonville, The Museum of Science & History (MOSH) will be closed Wednesday, August 30, with plans to reopen Thursday, August 31. Any changes to this plan will be shared on social media and at themosh.org/storm/.

• Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments will be CLOSED starting Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in anticipation of severe weather and potential impacts from Tropical Storm Idalia. While the storm track is unpredictable, based on existing information, park officials have decided to err on the side of caution and focus on visitor, volunteer, and staff safety through this preemptive closure.

• The Community Conversation hosted by Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan and Councilmember Tyrona Clark-Murray scheduled for Tuesday at Lane Wiley Senior Center has been postponed due to Tropical Storm Idalia. A new date will be announced shortly.

• The groundbreaking for the Manatee River at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens that was set to take place Wednesday has been postponed. Attendees will be emailed once a new date is selected.

• Florida Blue Centers in Southwest, West, and Central Florida will be closed on both Tuesday, Aug. 29 and Wednesday, Aug. 30. Florida Blue Centers in located in Jacksonville and the Tallahassee area Florida Blue Centers will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

• Representative Kimberly Daniels, House District 14 hereby reschedules the informational meeting to provide details about the 2023-2024 Appropriation Preparation Project(s) and its process due to the Hurricane Idalia Emergency Declaration and Closures.

• • The meeting will now take place Tuesday, September 5, 2023, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Beaver Street Enterprises, 1225 W. Beaver Street.

• In anticipation of Hurricane Idalia’s path through Florida, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens will be closed to the public on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, and will remain closed until the area is clear of the storm.

• • The Museum will post operational updates and reopening plans on its website (cummermuseum.org) and on social media @cummermuseum.

• St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) has announced that all Sunshine Bus and Paratransit transportation services will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, due to expected tropical storm conditions. Transportation facilities and customer service will also be closed. In addition, all Paratransit transportation services will be limited to life-sustaining services only (pending workload) on Tuesday, August 29, and Thursday, August 31, 2023.

• Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville announced that it will be closed Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30 due to Hurricane Idalia. Reopening will depend on a post-storm evaluation of damage. In addition, all programs and events are cancelled until assessments can be completed after the storm has passed. MOCA said it would continue to provide updates on its operating hours.

• The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve closed Tuesday, August 28 at 5 p.m. due to Hurricane Idalia. The park will remain closed through the storm and in the aftermath until safety assessments determine if the area is cleared to open.

• Clay County Animal Services has cancelled its TNVR program scheduled for Thursday, August 31 out of an abundance of caution. Shelters will be closed Tuesday, August 29. All storm fosters need to be picked up by 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

• The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce cancelled its ribbon cutting event for its new office due to the incoming weather. It is currently working to find an alternative date for the event and will provide updates when they become available.

• Baldwin Town Hall and the Baldwin Market will be closed Wednesday. The Baldwin Senior Center will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Garbage and Recycling will be picked up on Friday.

• 121 Financial Credit Union: All branches and call center closed Wednesday.

• Betty Griffin Center: Shelter and 24-Hour Helpline at (904) 824-1555 operating as normal

• Clay Humane: Closed Wednesday

• North Florida School of Special Education: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday

• Root Realty: Remaining open and operating at usual

• Women’s Center of Jacksonville: SAFE Center, Counseling and Main Office Closed Wednesday. 24-Hour Rape Crisis Hotline Operating as Usual at 904.721.7273

• NAS Jax is closing to non-essential personnel beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday and will remain closed through Thursday.

• • Only mission essential personnel will have access to the station on Wednesday, Aug. 30 until the installation returns to normal operations. This day will be considered administrative leave for all civilian personnel assigned to the station.

• Marineland Dolphin Adventure will be closed Wednesday, August 30. Business will resume on Thursday at the regular time.

• The following locations for the Florida Department of Health in Clay County are closed today.

• Vital Statistics in Fleming Island is closed August 30.

• Bear Run Clinic in Orange Park is closed August 30.

• All Women, Infants and Children (WIC) closed August 30 in Clay County.

• Nemours Children’s Heath - Jacksonville is closed August 30 and will resume normal operations August 31.

• RadiFi Credit Union closed all branches August 30. The contact center will be open for normal business hours.

• Jacksonville Humane Society is closed August 30, and the shelter anticipates opening the Adoption Center and Pet Help Center August 31.
