It's three to one if you're keeping score between what's happening in eastern Pacific and the Atlantic basin.
The 2022 hurricane season has barely begun, and the eastern Pacific has seen three named storms, with Tropical Storm Celia expected to become a hurricane within the next couple of days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Of course, the eastern Pacific does have a bit of a jumpstart on the Atlantic since its season begins May 15 compared to the Atlantic basin's official start of June 1.
In the Atlantic basin, Tropical Storm Alex has been the only named storm. It formed east of Florida after dropping more than 15 inches of rain in some locations as it crossed South Florida as Potential Tropical Cyclone One.
Currently, the Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic basin: one in the Caribbean and the other in the Gulf of Mexico. No tropical cyclones are expected during the next five days.
Here's the latest update from the NHC as of 8 a.m. June 22:
What's out there and where are they?
The first wave is located near Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea. It's moving to the west.
The second tropical wave is located in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. It's also moving to the west.
Who is likely to be impacted?
It's too early at this time to determine if there will be any impact to the U.S. from the tropical waves.
Forecasters urge all residents to continue monitoring the tropics and to always be prepared during what's expected to be an active hurricane season.
