Tropics watch: NHC monitoring 4 tropical waves, including 1 in Caribbean. In Florida, more rain

The tropics were quiet this morning, with no tropical cyclones expected over the next five days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Forecasters are watching four tropical waves in the Atlantic basin, including one in the Central Caribbean.

Elsewhere, residents in the Southeast U.S. and along the northern Gulf Coast can expect rain to continue as moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic feed into storms.

Clusters of thunderstorms with associated downpours were streaming across the Panhandle Friday morning, inundating an already saturated ground. Flash flooding has already been reported, with more expected, according to the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network.

Some areas could see another 2 to 4 inches of rain as storms develop into the weekend, with up to 10 inches in some locations.

Northeast Florida also could see isolated strong to severe storms this afternoon. Some storms could bring gusty winds of 40 to 60 mph. Heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service, Tallahassee.

What's out there and where are they?

Tropical wave 1: A tropical wave over the eastern Atlantic is passing through the Cabo Verde Islands. It's moving to the west at 17 mph.

Tropical wave 2: A tropical wave over central Atlantic is located west of Martinique. It's moving to the west at 19 mph.

Tropical wave 3: Another central Atlantic tropical wave is located east of the Lesser Antilles. It's moving to the west at 23 mph.

Tropical wave 4: A tropical wave in the central Caribbean is located near Haiti, extending south to the Venezuela-Colombia border.

Who is likely to be impacted?

It's too early at this time to determine if there will be any impact to the U.S. from the tropical waves.

Forecasters urge all residents to continue monitoring the tropics and to always be prepared during what's expected to be an active hurricane season.
