Born in South Africa, living in Australia, and traveling through 15 countries since the start of his Bloom concert tour this year, 24-year-old Troye Sivan is a true global star. “The past few months have been the best in my life,” he says. “It’s been so fun.” And what better to do on a rare day off than answer 73 questions from Vogue? Recently we headed over to California to catch up with the singer, who was staying at his manager’s house—a house where he lived briefly when he first moved to L.A.
While Sivan gives Vogue a tour of the house, his dog, Nash, and boyfriend of three years, model Jacob Bixenman, make significant cameos. “My first impression of Troye was that he was confident, very sweet, and pretty chill,” Bixenman says of Sivan. As for Sivan’s first impression of Bixenman? “Tall.”
As one of the most famous gay pop stars in the world, Sivan’s LGBTQ pride goes back to his days on YouTube, where he began his career; he even came out on the platform. “I just got to this place where I was so gay in my personal life, and really proud of it. And I was like, I want to share this with the whole world,” he says, though admits he cringes “so hard” when watching his old videos. Today he continues to be called a gay icon, though he has taken issue with that title. “The LGBTQ community is so unbelievably diverse and looks like so many people, and to be picked as one of the ‘faces’ of the community, it made me really uncomfortable,” he says.
It’s hard to see him as anything but comfortable now, as he dishes on beauty tips and the evolution of his personal style and even when he claims nervousness. “Walking runway is really scary for me,” Sivan says before executing a flawless strut for the camera—a flashback reminder to when he walked a Saint Laurent show in 2015. The grand finale? Sivan ends the clip by performing a splashy cannonball into the pool—a 73 Questions first.
