Truck driver dies in crash west of Adrian

ROME TWP. — A truck driver from Addison died Wednesday in a crash west of Adrian.

Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched at 3:35 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash along Southard Highway south of Burton Road, a news release from the state police's Monroe Post said. The investigation showed a semi-truck hauling a tanker trailer was traveling north on Southard Highway when it left the roadway, striking several trees before rolling onto its driver’s side.

The driver of the semi, a 67-year-old man from Addison, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel, troopers reported. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. Alcohol and drug use are not considered to have been factors in this crash. Preliminary indications show the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash, but this incident will remain under investigation.

Police did not release the man's name.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Addison, Cambridge Township, and Adrian fire departments.
