Truck drivers, nurses, elementary school teachers are among Wisconsin's top 10 'hottest' jobs

Few industries in Wisconsin have been spared by the workforce shortage.

Many need workers and are willing to raise wages to fill their open positions, but some industries are more in demand than others. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development rates the state's 50 hottest jobs, which are jobs with the most projected openings and salaries above the state's median average.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, these are the state's hottest jobs.

1. Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers

  • Annual total openings: 6,593

  • Median income: $44,200

  • Percent change 2018-2028: 7.21%

  • Projected total employment by 2028: 56,542

  • Education required: postsecondary non-degree

  • Total annual openings: 4,432

  • Median income: $59,640

  • Percent change 2018-2028: 3.77%

  • Total annual openings: 3,712

  • Median income: $40,700
