Truck driving couple's argument escalates to shooting on I-65

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A boyfriend-girlfriend truck driving team from Alabama hit a patch of trouble on Interstate 65 about a mile south of the Dayton exit, according to Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

The 28-year-old girlfriend from Pleasant Grove, Alabama, was driving the rig as the two argued. At some point in the argument, her 36-year-old boyfriend from Birmingham, Alabama, struck her in the head, according to the sheriff's office.

She stopped the rig, and the boyfriend threw her out of the driver's seat and into the truck's sleeping compartment behind the rig's passenger seats, according to the sheriff's office investigation.

The boyfriend then drove a short distance, pulled over and charged his girlfriend in the sleeper compartment, according to the sheriff's office new release. The girlfriend then shot the boyfriend, wounding him, according to the sheriff's office.

The wound was not life threatening, and he was treated at a local hospital, the sheriff's office news release stated.

As of about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, neither the man or the woman have been arrested, Tippecanoe County sheriff's Chief Deputy Terry Ruley said, noting the case remains under investigation.
