SALEM TWP. ‒ Northbound lanes of Interstate 77 were temporarily closed Wednesday morning due to a truck fire between Newcomerstown and Stone Creek in Salem Township.

The fire was reported at 8:24 a.m., according to Sgt. William Bower of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He did not believe anyone was injured, as no one was in the vehicle when troopers arrived.

Highway patrol dispatchers said a utility truck used for welding caught fire. Several tanks of oxygen and acetylene were removed before the fire was extinguished by firefighters from the Delaware Valley Joint Fire District.

Bower said the Ohio Department of Transportation was called to treat the road because water was freezing on the surface.

The left lane was open by 9:30 a.m.
