True Blood reboot axed at HBO

Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's True Blood reboot has been axed by HBO.
The popular vampire series wrapped up in 2014 after eight seasons, but in December 2020, it was announced that we would heading back to Bon Temps for some more supernatural drama.
Fans are now sure to be heartbroken, as Variety reports that the revival – which would have seen original showrunner Alan Ball return to executive produce – has been killed off.

According to HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys, some scripts had been written, "but nothing that felt like it got there".
Based on the book series by Charlaine Harris, the original True Blood starred Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid whose life is changed forever when the vampires in her town reveal their existence to the world.
However, none of the original cast members had been attached to the reboot, and Paquin even stated that she had no idea about it until it was announced.

Back in 2017, Stephen Moyer (who played Bill Compton) told Digital Spy that despite having an "amazing time", some of the original cast might be reluctant to return due to the "exhausting" filming.
Russell Edgington actor Dennis O'Hare also shared his doubts about any of the original cast returning, previously telling us: "I mean, I can't imagine any of us will be involved, because vampires don't age.
"So what do you with that? I could probably get away with it because I have a wig, and I was already in my late 40s, early 50s. But, you know, it's a tall order to ask people not to age."
True Blood is available to stream on HBO Max.
