True Detective has confirmed a release date for season 4.

The next season of the crime anthology series, titled Night Country, will be led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as their detectives investigate the disappearance of a number of men at a research station.

It has now been confirmed that the season will premiere on January 14 in the US on HBO Max, and on January 15 in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW.

It comes after it was recently announced that the new season would be delayed into January next year, having initially been slated for a late 2023 release.

The full synopsis reads: "When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace.

"To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

As well as Foster and Reis, the new episodes are set to star Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston, Killing Eve's Fiona Shaw, Deadwood's John Hawkes, The Nevers' Finn Bennett and The Grizzlies' Anna Lambe.

Night Country is being overseen by Issa López, taking over from writer Nic Pizzolatto after three seasons. However, Pizzolatto is still on board as an executive producer.

Foster and Reis take on the leads following the turns of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in season one, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams in season 2, and Mahershala Ali in season 3.

True Detective: Night Country streams on HBO Max on January 14 in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW on January 15 in the UK.
