If you're anything like me, you start thinking about your Halloween costume on Nov. 1, saving countless pictures and videos for inspiration. But then the next spooky season rolls around, and you're buying whatever is left in your size at Walmart.

Well, not this year, folks.

We're thinking outside of the box this All Hallow's Eve. No more pathetic cat, basic witch or poorly executed character costumes. It's time we embark on a totally original concept: Ohio-themed Halloween costumes.

Yes, you read that correctly. From Brutus Buckeye to a life-size cheese coney, the options are endless.

There are numerous great college mascots from our state, and none more popular that Ohio State University's Brutus Buckeye. All you need is OSU gear and a giant Brutus head, no big deal.

Not an Ohio State fan? Ohio University's Rufus the Bobcat, the University of Cincinnati's Bearcat and all the other local mascots are, of course, great options as well.

3. A Coney

This one is for my Queen City folks and chili lovers. You can get a plain hot dog costume from many costume retailers and spruce it up by adding a mound of fake cheese made out of felt. If you're really adventurous, you can also try making some phony chili.

4. Frisch's Big Boy

Another Cincinnati-specific costume idea is the Frisch's Big Boy. Here's what you need: a white T-shirt with "big boy," red and white checkered overalls, black shoes and a burger, real or fake. You can also add a 1950s James Dean-inspired wig for extra authenticity.

Speaking of Ohio-specific fast food chains: You can get a Wendy's costume via Amazon. However, if you want to do it yourself this spooky season, get a blue and white dress, a red wig, blue ribbons for your pigtails, red and white striped stockings, a red name tag that says, "Wendy," and voila!

6. Neil Armstrong

This costume is perfect for duos. Two people just have to dress up as a couple of aviators, find a plane model of some sort and boom: You have the Wright brothers.

This is my favorite option on the list. For this Porkopolis-inspired idea, get a snout, tail and angel wings.

Ohio is one of the country's top corn-producing states, so this is an obvious choice. You can purchase pre-made corn costumes on Amazon.

10. A Cavalier

I didn't forget about my Ohioans from up north. If you're a Cleveland native, you can represent your city by dressing up as one of the Cleveland Cavaliers' two mascots, Sir CC. You can also play it safe by going as one of the players or cheerleaders, which can work for basically any Ohio sports team.
