Trump Accuses Jussie Smollett of Making ‘Racist and Dangerous Comments’
Jon Levine
President Trump officially weighed in on the Jussie Smollett arrest on Thursday, just minutes after Chicago police wrapped a press conference where they said that the attack had been staged by the actor.
“@JussieSmollett – what about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments!? #MAGA,” Trump tweeted — tagging Smollett for his over 58 million Twitter followers.
However, it is unclear what specific comments the president thinks were “racist.” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap on Thursday.
In his original story, Smollett had accused two men in ski masks of attacking him and tying a rope around his neck. During the alleged assault Smollett said the men had shouted “this is MAGA country” — a pointed allusion to the president’s campaign slogan “Make American Great Again.”
