Trump assails Biden in RNC acceptance speech

"No one will be safe in Biden's America."

A defiant U.S. President Donald Trump accepted the nomination for a second term at the final night of the Republican National Convention on Thursday (August 27).

Railing against quote "mob rule" --

"We can never allow mob rule."

-- "cancel culture" --

"The goal of cancel culture is to make decent Americans live in fear of being fired..."

and what he termed the "radical left,"

Trump spoke for over an hour before a crowded and mostly maskless audience of over 1,000 people on the White House lawn.

He has faced criticism for using the presidential residence as a political prop.

"Joe Biden's plan is not a solution to the virus, but rather a surrender."

Trump spent most of the evening taking shots at opponent Joe Biden, attempting to distort the Democrat's policy positions on a host of issues, especially the health crisis and the economy.

"Joe Biden is not a savior of America's soul. He is the destroyer of America's jobs. And if given the chance, he will be the destroyer of American greatness."

Also touting his "law and order" response to widening anti-racism and police brutality protests across the country, Trump called Biden a quote "trojan horse for socialism," and repeated the Republican talking point that Biden would defund the police.

Biden has so far rejected that position.

"Joe Biden is weak. He takes his marching orders from liberal hypocrites who drive their cities into the ground while fleeing far from the scene of the wreckage."

The night came to an end as fireworks lit up the sky, giving Trump a powerful image with which to close the convention.

But not far from the White House, anti-Trump protesters chanted "Black Lives Matter" on the streets of the nation's capital, sounding horns which could be heard from the lawn where Trump delivered his speech, serving as a reminder that the country's divisions still run deep.
