Trump bumbles another geographical name: 'Thigh-land'
Maybe he needs to take a few days off and unwind in Frorida.
For the second time in three days, President Donald Trump is being ribbed for reading a geographic term phonetically from a prepared statement during a live speech. Although the president caught his mistake quickly, ridicule over his slip-up moved just as fast.
Thursday’s faux pas occurred at a Whirlpool plant in Ohio, where the 74-year-old president was hyping the American manufacturing industry.
He faulted businesses for “Shifting production to Thigh-land, and to Vietnam ,” before repeating himself, this time correctly pronouncing Thailand.
The president noted he liked both Asian countries, but repeated his oft-made claim that those nations used to take advantage of the U.S., before he came along.
Publications home and abroad seized on the blunder and it immediately went viral on Twitter.
Food writer Troy Johnson tweeted that “Thighland sounds both incorrect and delicious.”
Others combined it with the previous. Paul Begala, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, joked that “Thighland is the home of the Yo Semites.”
That was a reference to Trump’s mispronunciation of California’s Yosemite National Park during a Tuesday address from the White House.
NBC’s Carl Quintanilla also noted the president is on a roll, noting he’s also spelled Florida “Frorida” in a tweet Monday.
Trump’s blunder coincide with his reelection campaign making the mental acuity of his 77-year-old Democratic rival Joe Biden — who frequently misspeaks as well — an issue in the November election.
