PORTSMOUTH — Former President Donald Trump attended a private event at the AC Hotel in Portsmouth on Monday, Oct. 9, the same day he held a campaign rally in Wolfeboro, his campaign confirmed.

The candidate’s campaign stated Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination in 2024, took part in a closed-door meeting with law enforcement officials in New Hampshire. No specifics were released.

Both the Portsmouth Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police confirmed accommodating Secret Service for Trump and his campaign on the day of his Kingswood Regional High School speech.

Portsmouth Police Chief Mark Newport reported Trump and his team flew into Pease for his Monday event in Wolfeboro and required a state police escort to the school.

Trump, according to the chief, came back to the Port City for a "private function" at the Vaughan Street hotel, which required a police presence in the area.

The (Pease Development Authority) also made a request for us to be there while he was at the airport,” Newport said in addition to the Secret Service's request.

State police spokesperson Amber Lagace confirmed the agency assisted the Secret Service on Monday.

Representatives from the AC Hotel could not be immediately reached for comment.

In 2015, Trump received an endorsement from the New England Police Benevolent Association in an event at the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside hotel prior to his 2016 election as president.

Polling among likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters shows Trump is far ahead of other candidates seeking the party’s nomination in 2024. RealClear Politics’ polling average for Trump in New Hampshire shows him at 45% between Sept. 14 and Oct. 2. The next closest candidate is Nikki Haley, South Carolina’s previous governor and former United Nations ambassador under Trump, at 14.2%.
