Jun. 15—Former President Donald Trump is expected to return to Ohio for the first time since the 2020 election later this month, according to reports.

Ohio Republicans are hearing rumblings about a possible rally in the Cleveland area, but details are scant. The Ohio Republican Party didn't have anything to share as of Tuesday afternoon.

A Washington Post reporter tweeted earlier in the day that Mr. Trump is expected to return to the Buckeye State for a rally in Cleveland on June 26.

It would be Mr. Trump's first trip back since a rally in Circleville the week before Election Day. He won Ohio twice by 8‑point margins.

Northeast Ohio is ground zero for a showdown over the future of the Republican Party, with Mr. Trump and his allies backing his former campaign aide Max Miller in a primary against Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Rocky River, one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Mr. Trump.

Mr. Gonzalez has been fighting for his political future ever since. The Ohio Republican Party's governing committee voted not only to censure him for his vote, which they argue betrayed constituents, but called on him to resign.

The former president is also following the Aug. 3 primary for Republican Rep. Steve Stivers' congressional seat in central Ohio. Mr. Trump has endorsed Mike Carey, a coal mining executive, while Mr. Stivers is backing state Rep. Jeff LaRae as his successor. Mr. Stivers stepped down last month to run the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.

The GOP Senate field is still jockeying for Mr. Trump's endorsement. To date, it includes former Ohio Republican Party Chairman Jane Timken, former state treasurer Josh Mandel, investment banker Mike Gibbons, and luxury car dealer Bernie Moreno.
