Former US President Donald Trump is scheduled to welcome Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Bloomberg reported on Feb. 29, citing an anonymous source familiar with the arrangements.

The meeting is likely to take place on March 8, and it will increase concerns among U.S. allies about the prospect of Trump returning to power, the source said.

Article states that Orbán likes Trump, supports populist policies and is a prominent leader of the revival of the far right in Europe.

Earlier, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien said that the United States is “disappointed” with Orban’s policy toward Ukraine, Reuters reported.

“I think we’re disappointed that... PM Orbán has decided to stand alone in the European Union, questioning the fight to support Ukrainians,” he said.

On Jan. 18, a bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators arrived in Hungary to urge the government to approve Sweden’s NATO membership application. However, the Hungarian government refused to meet with the U.S. senators.

The Hungarian parliament has approved Sweden’s application for NATO membership on Feb. 26.

The U.S. State Department said it was disappointed by the boycott of the parliamentary session on ratification of Sweden’s NATO membership.

On Feb. 26, the Hungarian parliament nevertheless approved Sweden’s application to join the Alliance.
