Liz Cheney’s claim that Donald Trump was so sad after Jan. 6 that he stopped eating is keeping him up at night. In a Truth Social rant published in the wee hours of Monday morning, Trump vehemently denied the anecdote, countering that he wasn’t eating too little, but was so enraged that he was “eating too much.”

In Cheney’s upcoming book, Oath and Honor, the former Republican congresswoman describes an interaction with former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. In the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, McCarthy expressed to Cheney that he was “really worried” about Trump’s mental well-being.

“Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him,” McCarthy said, according to Cheney, telling her that he planned to travel to Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago to check in on him.

Cheney was incredulous. “What? You went to Mar-a-Lago because Trump’s not eating?” she asked McCarthy, who reiterated that Trump was “really depressed.”

Trump has clearly taken issue with this characterization of his mental state post-attempted insurrection. “Crazy Liz Cheney, who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome at a level rarely seen before, writes in her boring new book that Keven McCarthy said he came to Mar-a-Lago after the RIGGED election because ‘the former president was depressed and not eating.’ That statement is not true. I was not depressed, I WAS ANGRY, and it was not that I was not eating, it was that I was eating too much,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The former president added that his distress over being ousted from office was “not why Keven McCarthy was there. He was at Mar-a-Lago to get my support, and to bring the Republican Party together — Only good intentions.”

Later on Monday morning, presumably after Trump took a few hours off from posting to get some sleep, he attacked actor Robert De Niro. Last week, the Killers of the Flower Moon star bashed Trump during a speech at the Gotham Awards.

“Lying has become just another tool in the charlatan’s arsenal,” De Niro said. “The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace in his current campaign of retribution. But with all his lies, he can’t hide his soul. He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature, and shows disrespect, for example, by using ‘Pocahontas’ as a slur.”

Trump was incensed and called De Niro a “‘mental midget’ whose mind is shot, and whose life is a total train wreck. Very much like Crooked Joe Biden, he can’t put two sentences together. The good news is that this crude and very stupid ‘animal’ has lost all credibility!”

The jab comes a day after Trump attacked the actor for using a teleprompter during his speeches (which Trump has most definitely never done). “He has become unwatchable both in movies, and with the FOOLS that destroyed the Academy Awards, bringing them from one of the top shows in the Country to a Low Rated afterthought. De Niro should focus on his life, which is a mess, rather than the lives of others,” the former president wrote.

Trump should, however, exercise caution. It appears that too much anger is bad for his appetite.
