Former President Donald Trump said it was hard to explain the infamous "pee tape" allegations to his wife, Melania Trump.

"How would you like to be me and go home and explain that one to my wife? 'Darling, it wasn't true, I swear it wasn't!'" Trump said while speaking at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Saturday.

"Remember that one? With the hookers from Russia," he said, adding that the allegations were "phony."

In a heavily disputed dossier compiled in 2016, former British spy Christopher Steele claimed that Russian authorities had covertly filmed Trump being urinated on by sex workers in a Moscow hotel room.

Trump has long denied the dossier's contents, previously calling it a "pile of garbage." There is no evidence to suggest such a tape exists.

Last year, Trump specifically denied the tape's existence, unprompted, to a group of Republicans in Palm Beach, Florida, according to The Washington Post.

"I'm not into golden showers," he said, according to the paper, adding that his wife Melania didn't believe the allegation.

Last year, Steele doubled down on his claims, saying that he believed the tape "probably exists."

He claimed, without evidence, that Russia may have kept the tape hidden because Trump offered them "pretty good value" during his time in office.
