An attorney who launched one of Donald Trump’s legal challenges to the 2020 election results gave up his law license Wednesday rather than face disbarment proceedings.

L. Lin Wood, 70, was facing disbarment in his home state of Georgia. Instead, he told the State Bar of Georgia that he’d like to retire.

In his retirement letter, Wood acknowledged he would be “prohibited from practicing law in this State and in any other state or jurisdiction and that I may not reapply for admission.”

Wood was part of Trump’s team of lawyers who filed legal challenges to the 2020 election results in various states across the country. None of the suits succeeded.

Shortly after Joe Biden was declared the winner of Georgia, Wood filed a lawsuit attempting to stop the certification of the results. That suit was tossed.

In February 2021, the State Bar of Georgia launched a disciplinary investigation of Wood, issuing a massive memo outlining his alleged misconduct.

Wood attempted to fight the disbarment proceedings, but those challenges were also rejected. Two months ago, he sat for a hostile disciplinary hearing in which he clashed with special master Thomas Cauthorn.

Wood was just one of several former Trump attorneys facing career consequences for their attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Another member of the team, John Eastman, is facing disbarment proceedings in California for his efforts. He was slapped with 11 disciplinary charges by the State Bar of California in January, and hearings began in June.

Rudy Giuliani, perhaps the most famous member of Trump’s legal team, had his law license revoked in New York in June 2021, after the state said he made “demonstrably false” claims about the election.

The attorneys could also face more legal trouble in the Justice Department’s investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents and his actions on Jan. 6, 2021. Special counsel Jack Smith already interviewed Giuliani for several hours.

Smith also wants to speak with Sidney Powell, who filed several of Trump’s lawsuits, and Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state who was targeted by Trump supporters for not overturning the election results.
