Trump is the "G" in MAGA

The acronym M.A.G.A. is supposed to mean "Make America Great Again." It was a slogan used by Donald Trump in his presidential campaign and this statement resonated with the many Americans who are proud of our nation. It probably was a contributing factor to Trump’s unexpected victory in 2016. Now the Biden administration, and many Democrats, are ridiculing the term, suggesting that MAGA Republicans are some sort of clueless cult, in thrall to a charismatic but evil leader. Or that it is a code word for white supremacy. This is all ridiculous. That Mr. Trump’s opponents stoop to something so dishonest only goes further to prove how much they fear his probable candidacy.

Everyone acted surprise when recent polls put Donald Trump slightly ahead of Joe Biden. But, as every huckster knows, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, and the Post is certainly doing its part. Of the 16 pages in the A section of the Nov. 10 paper, the eight pages of editorial content consist of three articles repeating the same things from the Republican debate, four headlines with Trump’s name, the war in Gaza, German Nazism and the growing anti-Semitism against American Jews, and Jan. 6 suspects on the run. In those 16 pages, President Biden and the people running the country are not mentioned. The media must be salivating at the possible return of your man, Trump — the increased circulation of people groaning at each boorish remark and the public fear of every institution to be destroyed. If Trump wins, I’m going to cancel my subscription and encourage other people to join me.

Pass the dressing but pardon the turkey

This month, President Biden will take a break from addressing the inequities in our economy and important world events to pardon a turkey – a turkey that has done nothing requiring a pardon. This year exercise your own pardoning power by choosing a non-violent, cruelty-free Thanksgiving.The 245 million turkeys killed in the U.S. last year were raised in crowded sheds filled with toxic fumes. Their beaks and toes were clipped to prevent stress-induced aggression. At 16 weeks, slaughterhouse workers cut their throats and lowered them into boiling water to remove their feathers. Consumers pay a heavy price too. Turkey meat is full of cholesterol and saturated fats that elevate risk of chronic diseases. Intense prolonged cooking is required to destroy deadly pathogens lurking inside.Turkey meat production in the U.S. from January-September 2022 was 3.91 billion pounds, down only 7% from a year earlier; but we don’t have to support this industry. This Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks for our good fortune, health, and happiness with a cruelty-free feast of plant-based holiday roasts, vegetables, fruits, and grains.
