Donald Trump's campaign stop in Minnesota was overshadowed by the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, adding a new layer of uncertainty to the 2020 election race.

As the news broke, the president was telling voters in Bemidji, a city with a large Somali population, that Minnesota would be "overrun and destroyed" by refugees if Joe Biden wins

Earlier, Mr Trump said he is "certainly bothered" by comments from FBI director Christopher Wray, who said on Thursday that Russia was a bigger threat to the election and that Antifa is an idea rather than and organization.

What soon won't be a threat is coronavirus, which the president said will soon go the way of Isis since it is "essentially ready" for an October roll out and wide adoption by April 2021.

And while Trump thinks he's the worst thing to have happened to Isis, he's the "best thing to ever" happen to Puerto Rico after announcing a $13m aid package, three years after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

Mr Trump moved to ban the Chinese social media apps TikTok and WeChat from being sold in US online stores as his trade war with Beijing continues to rage.

The president’s call for schools to give pupils a “patriotic education”, offering a sunny and revisionist perspective on American history, has been met with widespread condemnation, with some commentators likening the idea to the brainwashing of the Hitler Youth in Nazi Germany.

The US Department of Education, meanwhile, has threatened to withhold funding from Connecticut school districts that allow transgender children to compete in sports in violation of the Title IX rights of non-transgender athletes.
