U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie once earned the scorn of former President Donald Trump. On Tuesday, Northern Kentucky's congressman earned Trump's endorsement.

In March 2020, Trump called Massie a "third-rate grandstander" and a "disaster for America" after Massie forced Congress to return to Washington and vote in person on a $2 trillion COVID-19 relief package.

It appears Trump has mended fences with the Republican from Garrison.

On Tuesday, Trump, endorsed Massie for reelection, calling him a "first-rate Defender of the Constitution."

"Thomas fights hard to Protect your Liberties, especially the First and Second Amendments, which are under siege by the Radical Left," Trump said in a release from his Save America political action committee.

Massie faces three Republican challengers in the May 7 primary. If Massie wins, he'll face Democrat Matthew Lehman, of Newport, in the general election.

Massie has represented Kentucky's 4th Congressional District since 2012, driving his Tesla from his off-the-grid house in Lewis County to Washington, D.C. He earned the moniker “Mr. No” for frequently being the lone House member voting "no" on bills

Massie said in a statement to The Enquirer that he spoke with Trump Monday.

"We had a great chat on the phone yesterday," Massie said in the statement. "I’m honored to receive President Trump’s endorsement.”
