Trump posts video of him singing about farming at Emmys with the government 36 hours from shutdown
Donald Trump has posted a video of himself dressed as a farmer while singing on stage at the Emmys less than 36 hours before the federal government is set for a possible shutdown.
The president triggered fears of another shutdown as he went back and forth over his demands that $5bn be included in a new spending bill to fund his campaign promise of a wall stretching the entirety of the US-Mexico border.
Earlier this week he appeared to walk back those demands as it became clear he did not have enough support among Republicans to include the funding in the bill, but negotiations took an unexpected turn Thursday when he met with lawmakers and reportedly demanded the money once again.
With Thursday’s video tweet, Mr Trump was highlighting an official signing event for the 2018 Farm Bill, an $867bn package that received widespread bipartisan support in the US House of Representatives.
The video he posted shows him and actress Megan Mullally at the 2011 Emmys performing a short skit in which the two sing the theme song to the 1960’s sitcom “Green Acres.”

The show was about a New York lawyer and his socialite wife moving from Manhattan to a farm and experiencing culture clash.
Donning a straw hat, t-shirt and overalls, the future president hugs Ms Mullally and signs with the actress — who is dressed in a gown with fur and earrings — in front of a screen showing imagery from the sitcom.
“Farm Bill signing in 15 minutes!” The president tweeted.
“Omg,” Ms Mullally tweeted shortly after the president posted the video.
