President Trump presented six police officers, who stopped the gunman in a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio last month, with the Medal of Valor and Heroic Commendations on Monday.

That assailant killed nine and injured 27 before the officers took him down.

In a ceremony in the East Room, Trump draped the medals around the necks of Sgt. William C. Knight and officers Brian L. Rolfes, Jeremy M. Campbell, Vincent J. Carter, Ryan D. Nabel and David M. Denlinger.

The six officers were patrolling a popular area in downtown Dayton on August 4, when the gunman wearing body armor and carrying multiple magazines of ammunition, opened fire on a line of people waiting to get into a popular bar.

Trump also presented certificates of commendation to five civilians from El Paso, Texas, "who displayed tremendous bravery" during the mass shooting at a Walmart in border city that left 22 dead and more than two dozen wounded.
