Former President Donald Trump pushed Americans to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, even those who might not want to.

In an interview Tuesday night with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, he said quote: "I would recommend it and I would recommend it to a lot of people that don't want to get it, and a lot of those people voted for me, frankly. But you know, again, we have our freedoms and we have to live by that.

And I agree with that also. But it's a great vaccine. It's a safe vaccine, and it's something that works."

Polls show significant numbers of Republicans are resistant to getting vaccinated.

Trump has said little to his supporters about getting vaccinated, after quietly getting the vaccine himself in January.

Last month at the Conservative Political Action Conference or CPAC, Trump told everyone to quote “go get your shot” and touted his administration’s efforts to speed up and obtain the vaccine.

The White House has said it would welcome Trump's support in encouraging his supporters to be vaccinated, although President Joe Biden expressed doubt about how much it would help.

Also during the interview, Trump said he would decide whether to make another run for the White House after congressional elections in November 2022.

He has said he is committed to helping fellow Republicans try to win back control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.
