Trump says he has 'not conceded' November election

Former President Donald Trump said on Monday that he has "not conceded" the November election.

"I never admitted defeat," Trump said during an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, adding, "No, I never, the word is 'concede,' [and] I have not conceded."

In the months following the fall presidential contest, Trump refused to admit defeat, arguing the presidency had been stolen from him by Democrats. The Trump campaign filed several legal challenges alleging widespread voter fraud, the majority of which were rejected by the courts.

But in January, after the riot at the Capitol, Trump said in a video that a "new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20."

"My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power," he added.

When asked in the Monday interview whether he would try to become speaker of the House in 2022, Trump didn't give a clear answer.

"Well, I've heard the talk, and it's getting more and more, but it's not something that I would have considered, but it is — certainly, there is a lot of talk about it," he said. "I have a good relationship with [Rep.] Kevin [McCarthy], and hopefully, we will do everything traditionally."

"You know, we were always known for free and fair elections," Trump added. "Well, it turns out they weren't free, and they weren't fair, and the world is watching. So I have seen talk about that, but it's nothing that I've ever considered."

The Washington Examiner reached out to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's office for comment on the former president's remarks but did not immediately hear back.

Trump has not said whether he plans to run for president in 2024.

"We’ll be making a decision on 2024, but if you look at the numbers, people are liking me more than ever before, and I think the reason is they're watching what is happening with our country," he told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday. "And I guess it is making me very popular."
