Trump says rival Biden opposes God and guns

Soon after U.S. President Donald Trump stepped off of Air Force One in Cleveland Thursday, the commander in chief stood at a podium outside in front of some of his supporters and attacked his political rival - former Vice President Joe Biden - claiming he would “hurt the Bible” and “hurt God” should he win the White House.

[TRUMP] “He's going to do things that nobody ever would ever think even possible because he's following the radical left agenda. Take away your guns, destroy your Second Amendment. No religion. No anything. Hurt the Bible, hurt God. He's against God. He's against guns. He's against energy, our kind of energy."

Biden, who is Catholic, has frequently credited his faith in God for helping him cope with the deaths of his first wife, his young daughter, and his adult son.

And in a statement, the Biden Campaign said: Joe Biden's faith is at the core of who he is; he's lived it with dignity his entire life, and it's been a source of strength and comfort in times of extreme hardship.”

Trump, who does not belong to a church in Washington, was criticized by religious leaders in June for staging a photo op while holding up a bible outside of St. John’s Episcopal Church across from the White House.

The photo op came after peaceful protestors were aggressively cleared from Lafayette Park to make way for the president.
