In response to Steve Nussbaum’s op-ed in which he references an imaginary Democratic party platform I need to point out a few things.

Open borders do not exist and in fact, President Biden has thrown his support behind a bi-partisan Senate bill that would significantly add to enforcement efforts. However, a small extremist minority in the Republican Congress are preventing it from moving forward solely to make President Biden look bad.

Nussbaum refers to fiscal policies that are “weakening the United States economically,” ignoring the fact that economic growth from 4th quarter of 2022 through 4th quarter of 2023 was over 3%! He continues his rant about “profligate borrowing and spending” that conveniently ignores the fact that in 4 years Trump added a record $8.4 trillion to the debt, primarily due to tax cuts for his billionaire cronies.

Foreign policy? While Trump would hand Ukraine over to the Russians and abandon our European allies by pulling out of NATO, Democrats are solidly behind support for Ukraine, Taiwan and our friends in Europe.

Nussbaum seems to think that prosecuting criminal activity, including treasonous acts of insurrection and sharing top secret defense documents with unauthorized people is somehow “weaponization of the Justice Department”. Trump has stated straight out that he is seeking “retribution” on his enemies, including the execution of his former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and will use his Attorney General and DOJ to do just that.

Nussbaum asks “what does the current platform of the Democrats offer?” The answer to that is what’s good for the vast majority of Americans rather than an elite few.

Under a Democratic President and Senate in the US:

We avoided the recession practically all economists predicted.

Inflation was reduced by 60% over the past two years with the Inflation Reduction Act.

We saw two of the strongest years of job growth in history with current unemployment rate of 3.5% being the lowest in 50 years.

750,000 new manufacturing jobs with more created in 2022 than any single year in nearly 30 years.

More people with health insurance than any time in US history.

Lowered Medicare recipient’s costs on prescription drugs including capping insulin at $35/month.

Signed into law 9 bills for veteran’s healthcare.

Infrastructure investments in all 50 states while Trump’s planned Infrastructure Week never happened. A short drive around the area will show the many road, bridge and water/sewage projects at work.

Meanwhile the Republican House has spent most of the last year playing musical chairs with their Speaker and taking extended vacations with nothing of substance to show for it. Biden and the Democratic Party will continue to work for all Americans, not just the privileged few.
