Trump Wins Turning Point 2024 Straw Poll by Nearly 60 Points

Former president Donald Trump led the 2024 presidential straw poll at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit by a wide margin Sunday, dominating every other Republican potential candidate by nearly 60 percentage points.
Youth activists from across the country were asked who they would vote in the 2024 presidential election at the weekend summit. Out of those polled, 78.7 percent said they would vote for Trump, according to Fox News.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 19 percent of the vote.
Other potential 2024 candidates were all at or under one percent, including South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem at one percent and former secretary of state Mike Pompeo at .5 percent. Texas Senator Ted Cruz, former ambassador Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence all polled at .3 percent, according to the outlet.
No Republican candidate has yet announced an official 2024 bid for the White House.
Trump and DeSantis both spoke at the conference, with the former president hinting at another potential presidential run.
Trump spoke about his 2016 presidential win, claimed he won the 2020 election and said, “now we may just have to do it again,” according to Fox News.
“If I stayed home, if I announced that I was not going to run for office, the persecution of Donald Trump would immediately stop,” Trump added, the outlet reported. “But that’s what they want me to do. And you know what? There’s no chance I do that.”
DeSantis didn’t mention 2024 in his speech, but predicted a “red wave” for the 2022 midterm elections. He spoke about the failures of President Joe Biden and praised the work he’s done in Florida, including tackling critical race theory and battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Biden “came in and cranked the printing presses, kneecapped American energy, and he also opened our southern border,” DeSantis said during his speech, Fox News reported. “And what we’ve seen in the last year and a half is the largest illegal migration into this country in the history of the United States of America. We have record human trafficking, we have record sex trafficking, and we have record drug trafficking.”
Attendees were also polled on who would be the most difficult for a Republican to beat in 2024. Just 4.4 percent of those polled said Biden, while 30.3 percent said California Governor Gavin Newsom.
When asked if they approved of the Republican establishment in Washington, D.C., the young Republicans polled overwhelmingly said “no,” with only 7.3 percent approving.
Over 73 percent of attendees said they weren’t confident the Republican Party communicates well with young voters, and 98 percent said building a wall at the southern border is more important than aiding Ukraine.
