Truro election recount: Tax override for child care passes again. It was still very close.

A recount in Truro on Monday reaffirmed voter approval of an override ballot question that will fund and staff community sustainability programs.

According to a release from the town of Truro, "the recount yielded the following verified results: 293 'yes' votes, 290 'no' votes, and 7 blank ballots."

The May 9 annual town election results on the question had it passing by one vote, with 292 "yes" votes, 291 "no" votes and seven blank ballots.

The recount took place at the Truro Community Center.

"A dedicated team of participants .... worked collaboratively to ensure the accuracy of the recount," according to the town.

That team included town clerks from "various" Cape towns, the Wellfleet Election Warden and Truro town staff.

The recount was held after two recount petitions were filed following the annual town election.

Having passed at town meeting and at the ballot box, the town will now be allowed to assess $703,050 in real estate and personal property taxes to supplement the operating budget to implement community sustainability programs, including a child care voucher system, a preschool program at the Truro Central School and a child care program for times outside the school day and the school year.
