A former engineer, community volunteer and stay-at-home mom has been selected as the third member of the Orange Township board of trustees.

Erica Fouss, 42, a registered Republican who has never run for public office, said she's excited at the opportunity to serve her community of 13 years. She's also familiar enough with controversy in Delaware County's largest township to find ways to keep the peace.

"My only real goal, other than doing a good job, is to keep us out of the news in a negative light," she said. "I want to make us look like the shining star that we are."

Fouss was selected by Trustees Ben Grumbles and Lisa Knapp from a pool of just six candidates following a lengthy executive session Tuesday night.

"Most of the applications we received were really good candidates," said Knapp. "It was a difficult decision to make, but I think we made the right one."

Fouss fills Grumbles' unexpired term, created when he opted to run for a new, four-year term in the November 2021 election, effectively extending his term by two years.

When he was one of the top two vote-getters for the two open seats, Grumbles resigned his previous seat as of Dec. 31, 2021. Grumbles and Knapp then were tasked with filling the vacant seat with its unexpired term.

In her resume, Fauss lists "Household Manager" as her job since 2006, which entails multi-tasking, maintaining records, organizing and planning. She is married and has three children, 11, 13 and 15.

Prior to that, she worked as an engineer in construction management with Turner Construction. Projects she worked on included Nationwide Children's Hospital's Research Building, South Campus Gateway commercial development near Ohio State University, and Nationwide Insurance's Downtown headquarters.

Fouss has extensive volunteer service, working with local school groups and committees.

Fouss' term expires Dec. 31, 2023. She will be sworn in Wednesday and take office immediately.
