Try on Dummy Google Glass for $50

You wouldn't spend $1,500 on a suit without trying it on, or buy a car without taking it for a test drive. So why wouldn't you want to try on a pair of Google Glass before spending your hard-earned money on it? Google's making it possible to do just that by offering people who've previously expressed interest in its heads-up display the chance to try out non-functional Glasses. The company will send you a home try-on kit after placing a $50 hold on your credit card until the kit is returned.

Based on a screenshot on 9to5Google, the search giant says interested participants can call 855-9GLASS9 any day between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. PST to join the program. You'll have 10 days to try out dummy Google Glass before having to return the kit to get back your $50 deposit.

Those who participate will get a set of four titanium frames and four colors of Glass (Charcoal, Tangerine, Shale and Sky), as well as a prepaid return label. The units of Glass that come in the try-on kits are returned units in relatively good shape.

Each device's USB port has been destroyed so it can't be charged and will not turn on. 9to5Google reported that some of the units would power up, but wouldn't boot into the OS, meaning that even if you could somehow juice up the try-on Glasses, you wouldn't be able to use them.

This program comes just days after opening up the sale of Glass to the public (for 1-day only), as well as an upgrade to the operating system to version 16. We're curious to see how things evolve at the company's upcoming developer conference, Google I/O.
