·2 min read

May 9—Tryout dates have been announced for this summer's American Legion Post 26 baseball and fast-pitch softball teams.

The softball tryout will be held at 6 p.m. May 17 at Citizens Park Field 11, while the baseball tryouts will be held at 1 p.m. May 20 at South Aiken High School's field.

The age eligibility for softball ranges from any player that is a rising eighth-grader to any player that does not turn 20 during the calendar year 2023. This will be the second year Post 26 has offered softball, and John Nelson will again be the team's head coach.

League play is scheduled to begin June 6, with games normally scheduled for weeknights. Division playoffs begin July 11, with the division championships set for July 13 and the state tournament scheduled to begin July 17 at Lander.

The baseball program will offer two teams — one for players age 17 and under, the other for 15 and under. Players cannot turn 18 during the calendar year 2023, and players born on or after Aug. 1, 2010 are not eligible.

The regular season begins May 30 for the 15 and under team, which will be coached by Zach Holley. The 17 and under team, coached by Michael Baker, will begin its regular season June 5. Games are typically scheduled for weeknights, and playoffs begin the week of July 10.

All players must register at SCALB.org to participate in American Legion Baseball this summer..

Proof of age from a state bureau of vital records or the player's South Carolina driver's license will be required at both tryouts.

If a player is still participating in high school playoffs at the time of tryouts and will be unable to attend, they may contact David Savage at (803) 295-3798 to arrange for a later tryout. That must be done on or before May 22 for softball and May 26 for baseball.
