Tua carted off with injury; ex-Pats QB takes over for Dolphins originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Tua Tagovailoa helped the Miami Dolphins take down the New England Patriots in Week 1, but his day ended very early in Week 2.

The second-year quarterback was carted off the field Sunday less than five minutes into Miami's matchup with the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa walked off the field under his own power but appeared to be in obvious pain.

Former Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett, the only other QB on the Dolphins' active roster, took over for Tagovailoa following his injury.

The No. 8 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama, Tagovailoa entered the 2021 season with lofty expectations for a Miami team with playoff aspirations.

It's unclear how much time he'll miss, but Patriots fans will be monitoring the QB situation of their AFC East rival with a New England-Miami rematch set for Week 18.

UPDATE (3:45 p.m. ET): Tagovailoa has a rib injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game, per the Dolphins.
